Dental Chairside AssistantStudents in the Dental Chairside Assistant program will discover that it is both challenging and comprehensive. The course covers both hands-on and theoretical training in operative dentistry, lab procedures, and dental radiology. In addition, anatomy, biology, nutrition, microbiology, pharmacology, and oral pathology are examined. Education in dental office procedures, basic computer applications, bookkeeping, and appointment scheduling complete the classroom training and are followed by a required clinical experience.
Developmental Service WorkerThe Developmental Service Worker program trains students to provide support to individuals with developmental, learning and/or physical disabilities or mental disorders.
Intra Oral Dental AssistingThis comprehensive program involves hands-on and theoretical training in operative dentistry, lab procedures and dental radiology. In addition, anatomy, nutrition, microbiology, pharmacology, and oral pathology are examined. Classroom training is followed by a required clinical experience. Under the direction of a dentist, graduates may polish teeth, apply fluoride treatments, place pit and fissure sealants, apply topical anesthetic, apply over the counter whitening (bleaching) agents and much more. Graduates have the skills/prerequisites to apply to write the National Dental Assisting Examination Board Certification exam. All graduates of the Intra Oral Dental Assisting Level 1 & 2 must successfully challenge this exam before they can perform Intra Oral (Level 2) skills in a dental office. This exam is currently offered twice each year and results in a designation that most dentists in the province look for when hiring.
