  • Accounting and Payroll Administrator
    The Accounting and Payroll Administrator Diploma Program equips you with the tools necessary to meet the demands of the current job market. The aim of this program is to provide you with a combination of computer and office administration skills and a practical foundation in accounting, computerized accounting systems and payroll. Accountants and auditors help to ensure that the Nation’s firms are run more efficiently, its public records kept more accurately, and its taxes paid properly and on time. Students are prepared to enter the employment market upon graduation after a 5-week practicum giving them on the job experience. Industry is clear about the kind of training they want and we have paid close attention to their needs in developing this program. Students in our Accounting and Payroll Administrator program gain a competitive edge by participating in the Payroll Management Certificate Program (PMCP) offered through the Canadian Payroll Association (CPA). Students take the CPA Core Payroll Courses: Introduction to Payroll and Intermediate Payroll and are prepared for examination and certification to PMCP Level II: Payroll Supervisor.       The Addictions and Community Services Worker gives students the theoretical and practical skills to work in high-pressure environments. Students learn conflict management and resolution skills, health information regarding drug and substance abuse, and treatment planning.  The Addictions and Community Services Worker program has been designed to prepare the graduate for an entry-level position in any facility that deals with alcohol and drug abuse clients.

    Community Health Care
    An intensive program designed to prepare you for such positions as Long-Term Care Aide (geriatric), Home Support Healthcare worker, Resident Care Attendant, Nurse’s Aid and Special Needs Assistant. The excellent training provided by highly qualified instructors, and the experience acquired during the seven weeks of practicum will equip you with the knowledge and confidence for a career in Care Giving. Each student will complete a three-week practicum in the community and a four-week practicum in a long-term care facility to give them the hands-on experience that is crucial to getting a job. With a comprehensive approach to community healthcare, students become familiar with development disorders and the basic principals involved in special education within schools. Students will also gain an understanding of behaviour management, non-violent in crisis intervention and the care of residents and clients with mental health disorders. With additional supporting skills development in the area of recreational therapy (including art & music therapy) and program planning, students will be prepared to assist in the organization of activities. As graduates of the Community Healthcare Program, you will be prepared to function collaboratively as a member of a multidisciplinary healthcare team.     Practical Nursing
    Nurses continue to be in high demand in BC and across the country. If you want a rewarding career in health care that offers both diversity and many opportunities for growth, the Practical Nursing program at Vancouver Career College is for you. As a Practical Nursing student, you will learn to provide nursing care in collaboration with other health care professionals. You will focus on developing the essential competencies for a Practical Nurse as established by the College of Licensed Practical Nurses of British Columbia and gain the skills needed to care for patients in medical, surgical or rehabilitation wards of acute care hospitals. In addition, the Nursing Arts courses and the 3 practicum placements will give you ample opportunity to put theory into practice. By the end of your preceptorship component, you will have learned to provide holistic nursing interventions to patients and have gained the relevant clinical experience to meet professional practice competencies and standards. As a PN graduate, you will be prepared to join the health care team in medical, surgical and rehabilitation wards of acute care hospitals. You may also find employment in the long-term care settings, group homes, public schools, special care units and home care.

    Rehabilitation Therapy Assistant
    In the Rehabilitation Therapy Assistant program at CDI College, you will develop the knowledge, skills and values to assist rehabilitation therapists during treatments in a variety of health care and community settings. As a Rehabilitation Therapy student, you will study anatomy, physiology, human development, movement and human disorders. You will also learn about clinical physiotherapy, gerontology, communications and rehabilitation processes. In addition you will have opportunity to learn about the occupation therapy and various techniques used for physical disabilities as well as the psychiatry and pediatrics fields. As a graduate from the Rehabilitation Therapy Assistant program, you will be prepared to work in partnership with, and under the direction of, Physiotherapists, Occupational Therapists and/or Recreational Therapists. You may find employment in a range of settings, including community health centers, clinics, private agencies, rehabilitation centers. Other settings that employ Rehabilitation Therapy Assistants include hospitals, long-term care facilities, fitness centers and residential care homes.

    Resident Care Attendant
    Are you a compassionate and caring person? Do you want to help others? If you want to establish a career that incorporates these qualities, you should enroll in the Resident Care Attendant program at Vancouver Career College. In the Resident Care Attendant program, you will study anatomy, physiology and medical terminology. You will learn about chronic medical conditions, interpersonal relations and communications, as well as human growth and development. You will also gain a solid foundation in specific areas such as Alzheimer’s Disease and Dementia, death and dying, and patient support networks.  You will receive certification in First Aid, CPR, BC FoodSafe, and WHMIS training. In addition, you will complete three-weeks of clinical training in intermediate care and four-weeks of clinical training in an extended care facility to gain hands-on experience in the field. As a graduate of the Resident Care Attendant program, you will be prepared to care for clients with special needs and to function collaboratively as members of a multidisciplinary health care team.     Vancouver Career College’s Construction Electrician Foundation Diploma Program will prepare you for an entry level position as an apprentice electrician with contracting companies involved in residential and commercial electrical work. You will work and learn in classroom, laboratory and shop settings where experienced instructors demonstrate safe and efficient installation and maintenance techniques. Various residential electrical mechanisms will be covered, including power, lighting, alarm, data and communication systems. You will study safety issues and electrical theory. You will also learn to read electrical blueprints and apply the electrical code. Five weeks of practicum allow you to test your skills in a job setting.     If you love working with children, our Early Childhood Education program will provide you with an excellent introduction to a rewarding career. You will study interpersonal communications, childhood development, behavior management and program planning. In addition, you'll learn teaching strategies that use drama, math, science, play and arts and crafts. You will also receive First Aid and CPR certifications as well. As part of this program, you will observe experienced Early Childhood Educators in the field and then apply your newly developed skills during eight weeks of practicum. After completion of the coursework, you must gain an additional 500 hours of field experience required for licensing. Upon completion of the first ECE module, you can apply for an assessment letter to become an Assistant through the Early Childhood Education Registry. As you train, you can also work or volunteer part-time to complete the required hours. Upon graduation from the Early Childhood Education program, you will find employment opportunities exist in day care centers, preschools, nursery schools, integrated day cares and family service centres.

    Early Childhood Education Post Basic - Infant & Toddler
    Have you already obtained your Early Childhood Education diploma? Would you like to expand your role and an educator? The Early Childhood Education Infant, Toddler and Special Needs program is a perfect opportunity to specialize your training and expand your career opportunities. During the program, you will study child growth and development, program planning, health, safety and nutrition.  You will focus on developing the specific skills required to work with infants, toddlers and children living with special needs. In addition, you will learn administration skills for child care centers, including financial management, philosophy, policy design and organizational structure. In order to enroll in the ECE Infant/Toddler and Special Needs program, you must be a certified Early Childhood Educator or in the process of completing the required 500 hours of work experience to enroll in this program. Career opportunities include day care supervisor, day care worker, childcare worker, pre-school teacher and ECE supervisor.

    Montessori Teaching Certificate
    Vancouver Career College’s Montessori Teaching certificate program prepares graduates to apply the principles and practices founded by Dr. Maria Montessori in the early twentieth century. Dr Montessori believed in providing meaningful experiences in a nurturing and multi-age classroom where the role of the adult is to prepare the environment and assist in the natural development of a caring, competent and responsible child.  Students train in the major areas of Montessori learning (Language, Sensorial, Math, Cultural and Practical Life) in order to develop a knowledge of purposeful activities for children along with refined and superior observational skills. The modular format allows students to work as teaching assistants at Montessori childcare centres and preschools upon completion of their first Montessori course. As part of the program, students are required to complete observations outside of class time, which will, in turn, be used to complete assignments.     TEFL (sometimes also referred to as TESOL), means Teaching English as a Foreign Language and a TEFL certificate is the major qualification required to teach English abroad.
